The Czars Head was present by 1816. **
The Czars Head, Great Tower Street, was also known as The Czar of Muscovy, the pub was named after Czar Peter The Great (1682-1721) who, legend has it, drank in an earlier pub on this site when he was learning shipbuilding at Deptford in 1698.
The pub was destroyed in an air raid on the night of 29.12.1940. *+

Czars Head, Great Tower street, Solomon John Dibbs to Thomas Smyth
Annie Everett , although she was apparently also known by her maiden
name, Annie Deeley. She may have held that license for only a short
time, as in the 1871 census she has disappeared from the census and her
father, Thomas Deeley, who was her barman, is now a "retired publican"
and living in Lambeth. Annie married a young man named Joseph Frith
Everett (who is my distant ancestor) in 1846 at St. John The Evangelist,
Waterloo, Surrey. In 1851 they were living in Soutwark and JFE was a
printing press maker. However, shortly thereafter he took bankruptcy and
those documents list him as a hydraulic engineer or a pewterer. In 1857
he went to Australia, where in 1866 he himself applied for a pub license
in Victoria. I don't know if he ever ran the pub. He died in 1868. Much
later in 1891, his cousin, who was my great-grandfather probated his
estate and listed him as a widower. ***
