Frank is one of my Great Great Grandfathers and ran a bunch of pubs in the London area between 1865 and around 1890 or so. *
Frank was born on 7th June 1839 in Andover, Hampshire. He married Jane on 6th July 1864, in Andover. Her family kept the village store in Wherwell, Hampshire. Jane died on 5th July 1880 in Shooter's Hill and Frank subsequently married Amelia. On an interesting side note, one of the children of Frank and Amelia, George Barnes, raced motorcycles and, later, went on to become one of the early aviation pioneers. One of my distant cousins even had enough information to write a substantial book about his expoits. *
The 1871 census confirms the details of Frank Barnes, and lists his wife Jane, born in Winchester in Hampshire and a year older. Their eldest two children are born in Deptford, then at Shoreditch.
Frank Barnes in the 1881 census suggests he is born in Andover in Hampshire in 1839, and he is a widow by this date.
In October 1882 in Camberwell, a marriage exists between Frank Barnes, widower aged 43 and Amelia Williams, aged 37. She is the daughter of Frederick Francis Williams, a Licensed Victualler, at 177 Asylum road.
The 1891 census at 137 Shooters Hill road, in Greenwich is possibly a private address. It lists him with his second wife, Amelia.
Leaving the Queens Head, 167 Bermondsey street, Bermondsey SE1 is a Frank Barnes in April 1865.
Leaving the Fountain, 105 Lambeth Walk, Lambeth SE11 is a Frank Barnes in April 1865

I also have record of the licence transferring from Frank to Samuel Hawgood in September 1866 (30 Sep 1866) but have not been able to find anything about the licence having gone back to him after the prior event. *
There is a Frank Barnes who is licensee of the Old Gibraltar, 309 Evelyn Street, Deptford SE8 in 1869 and leaves here in May 1869.
It appears he was here twice - July 1866 (My Great Grandfather was born there in Oct 1866) and May 1869. Then, again, between bet 1875 and Jun 1880 (Kentish Mercury, 2 Oct 1875; Woolwich Gazette, Nov 1875; Kentish Mercury, 13 Dec 1879; Woolwich Gazette, 7 Feb 1880; & 12 Jun 1880) *
In July 1869, Frank Barnes becomes licensee of the Jolly Butchers, at 261 Old Street, Shoreditch EC1; He leaves the premises in January 1872.

In the 1874 directory is listed a Frank Barnes who is licensee of the Bell Inn, 135 Fore Street, Upper Edmonton N18
In July 1876, Frank Barnes leaves the premises and the license of the Angel & Crown, at 47 Brushfield Street, Spitalfields E1.
In the 1881 census Frank Barnes is listed in the census at the Flint House, at 65 Hyde Road, Shoreditch N1
