George died in 1893. His widow Sarah must have held the pub a year or so more as my Great Grandfather George William Hewitt joined the Royal Marines in 1894 (having lied about his age!!) and on his attestation form gave his address as 38, Martha Street, Dean Street, Commercial Road and next of kin as mother Sarah!!

Georges youngest son Donald is found at the Licensed victuallers school in Lambeth in the 1901 census. The rest of the family are in Leyton **
