George Clarence Pride was born in Notting Hill on 2 March 1892. He is recorded as a carman in the 1911 Census. He served as a driver in the Army Service Corps between 1915 and 1919, including in East Africa where he contracted both dysentery and malaria. After the war, he worked as a chauffeur in West Kensington before becoming a publican. He was still licensee of the Six Bells in 1939, but moved to Devon by 1941. He died in Tiverton in 1975. *
